Who is Chip?

Long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away. Okay, it wasn't another galaxy, but it was in Cumberland, Maryland. Frank John Lamca, his brother Eric and their neighbors Chris and Rob Lee were snacking away on Snyders of Hanover rippled Potato Chips. Frank pulled out an enormous chip and said, "Hey, that must be a world record!"

Upon consulting the Guiness Book of World Records, they discovered that it was indeed, a record. The boys consulted the Guiness Book on how certify a record and went to a notary who measured the potato chip at 5.25 x 6.75 inches! The next step was to call the paper. Being a small town, Cumberland was short on news an ran an article about the world record quest.

The top 40 station called the next morning and interviewed Frank. The interview was played over and again on the school bus and soon Frank was being called "Potato Chip King" or "Chip King" and finally "Chip." Frank had the same name as his father but a different middle name (for which he will always thank his mother!) so Junior was not an option. A six foot tall seventh grader has a tough time with "Frankie" or "Little Frank" so "Chip" stuck.

Family and longtime friends still call him Chip and since his father for some reason took fjlamca as his blogspot title, even though his middle name is Eugene, Frank John Lamca has decided to use Chip in his blogspot title. Confused? We don't blame you.

By the way, Pringles came out about the same time as the world record. We got a letter from Guiness saying congrats, but in the meantime, someone has broken your record, so we never made it into the book! Due to the pringle factor, where people just made their own chips, the record was retired about 1978. And now you know...the rest of the story.
